Ukraine Deal at Risk, Warns Rubio

The United States is prepared to abandon a tentative peace and economic framework with Ukraine if progress stalls, warned Senator Marco Rubio during high-stakes negotiations in Paris. Appearing alongside real estate mogul Steve Witkoff, Rubio emphasized that Kyiv must show clear commitments to reforms and financial accountability—particularly regarding the reimbursement of prior U.S. military aid.

The peace framework, which had neared finalization in February, suffered a major setback following a tense Oval Office meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, former President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance. The diplomatic fallout left the agreement in limbo for weeks.

However, Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced overnight that a memorandum had finally been agreed upon, clearing the path for a U.S.-Ukraine investment fund aimed at rebuilding war-torn regions.

“We are happy to announce the signing with our American partners,” Svyrydenko stated. The deal, which includes provisions for large-scale economic collaboration, is expected to be signed next Thursday, President Trump confirmed to reporters at the White House.

While the details of a parallel minerals agreement remain murky, U.S. officials continue to push for greater transparency and strategic alignment, especially in areas tied to reconstruction contracts and critical resource access.

As talks continue, the geopolitical stakes remain high, with Washington's patience wearing thin and Kyiv striving to maintain Western support amid increasing domestic and international pressures.
