FSU Shooting: More Victim, Suspect Info Released
Two men killed in a mass shooting at Florida State University have been identified as Tiru Chabba, a 45-year-old Aramark executive, and Robert Morales, a dining services worker and beloved high school football coach. Both were described by loved ones as devoted family men and passionate community members.
Chabba, originally from Greenville, South Carolina, served as regional vice president for Aramark Collegiate Hospitality. He is survived by his wife and two children. Morales, a Miami native, was remembered by his brother in a heartfelt social media post: “He loved his job at FSU and his beautiful wife and daughter. I’m glad you were in my life.”
The suspected gunman, 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, a current FSU student and the stepson of a Leon County sheriff’s deputy, was shot and taken into custody by campus police shortly after the midday attack near the student union. Six other people, including students, were wounded but are expected to recover, hospital officials said.
Authorities say Ikner used his stepmother’s former service weapon in the attack. Investigators are now exploring disturbing findings related to his online activity, which indicate a fascination with Adolf Hitler and Nazi ideology. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) confirmed that accounts linked to Ikner featured images of Hitler and references to the Schutzstaffel, the paramilitary wing of the Nazi party responsible for many atrocities during the Holocaust.
“It gives us a little more insight into what he’s thinking about and curious about,” said Carla Hill, a senior investigator at the ADL’s Center on Extremism.
The motive for the attack remains under investigation, and authorities are continuing to piece together Ikner’s background and digital footprint.
