80-year-old marathon runner shares breakfast she eats every day to help her keep fit.
Mary Palmer just recently completed the Barcelona Marathon, and while quite the accomplishment, it didn't come easy -Palmer put in the work to get there.
Mary Palmer, an 80-year-old retired teacher, has shared the diet and workout routine that enabled her to run the Barcelona marathon in Spain.
Born to Scottish parents, Palmer began her training at 6:30am for the 26-mile run in her hometown. She would head to a nearby park on an empty stomach, where she completed 10 laps of a 1km circuit and climbed stairs before breakfast.
"I have spelt bread, with sesame and olive oil, and a hard-boiled egg every day,"
Palmer revealed to Spanish outlet COPE. The bread and olive oil provided healthy fats and complex carbohydrates for energy, while the egg supplied protein for muscle maintenance and recovery.
