‘Avatar: Fire and Ash is being directed by James Cameron and is the third installment in the Avatar series. The first trailer was shown on April 4 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. However, this trailer has not yet been released to the public.

Unlike the delays seen with previous installments, this time there's no wait. Cameron had already shot all the sequels together in advance, so the movie is set to be released on schedule.

At CinemaCon, attendees were shown a 3D trailer featuring the breathtaking landscapes of Pandora. The trailer introduced two new Na’vi tribes—the Wind Traders and the Fire People. The Wind Traders travel through the skies in balloon-like airships. On the other hand, the Fire People launch fiery arrows while flying on creatures called Ikran. In a dramatic mid-air clash between the two tribes, a Na’vi warrior loses their life.

Although James Cameron wasn’t physically present at the event, he sent a video message from New Zealand, where he is currently busy with post-production. In his message, he said, “The Sullys are facing their toughest test yet. Not only do they have to fight humans, but they’re now up against terrifying enemies like the Ash People, who have emerged from within their own kind. I wish I could be there, but right now, finishing ‘Fire and Ash’ is my top priority.”

Cameron also expressed hope that the film would draw audiences back to theaters—something movie houses have been eager for in the post-pandemic era.

The first Avatar (2009) and its sequel The Way of Water (2022) both grossed over $2 billion worldwide. Cameron’s team aims to continue that success with this new installment.

If Fire and Ash also crosses the $2 billion mark, it will become the first film series in history with three movies in the “$2 billion club.”

Currently, only James Cameron holds that record—with Titanic, Avatar, and The Way of Water. ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is scheduled to release on December 19, 2025.

After that, Avatar 4 is slated for release on December 21, 2029, and the fifth film is planned for December 19, 2031.

At CinemaCon, Disney also gave a glimpse of its upcoming projects. These include Marvel’s Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, Zootopia 2, Freaky Friday, Tron: Ares, and a live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. A Disney executive said, “Our films tend to stay in theaters for a long time—and that’s not a coincidence. We value the theater experience.”
