Law enforcement officers in Massachusetts are warning residents about a scam in which fraudsters are using text messages to trick people into giving away their personal information.

These scammers may pose as legitimate organizations, such as government agencies or financial institutions, and often use urgent or alarming language to prompt victims into responding quickly. The messages may ask recipients to provide sensitive details, like Social Security numbers, bank account information, or passwords.

Authorities are urging residents to be cautious and avoid responding to unsolicited messages. They recommend verifying any requests directly with the organization by using official contact information and to never share personal or financial details over text.

If you believe you’ve fallen victim to such a scam, report it to local law enforcement and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
